Abstract

Language is constantly evolving. A lot of that evolution is thanks to social circumstances - how people use the language around them is one of the most crucial parts of linguistic development. This material introduces how sociolinguistics can be researched in a historical context, using computational methods to make the process more efficient.

Hi Eli - thanks for this. I'm going to add the author now.

Just as a note for future resources, try to avoid using 'Learn' at the beginning of the learning outcomes. Try to use more active or specific verbs. For example "understand the basic principles of Historical Sociolinguistics" and "be able to critique some of the main tools used in current Historical Sociolinguistic research" :)
