Power8 disappears after system goes to sleep #21

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Run system
2.Let system go to sleep
3.Bring system back up

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The Power8 icon disappears from the task bar. I have to run Power8.exe by
finding it through the library to get my start button back.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.4.3.619 on Windows 8

Please provide any additional information below.

Hello Richard,

I never saw this behavior and wasn't able to reproduce it.
The thing is that sleep only stops secondary hardware and does nothing to
processes.
Maybe you have Hybrid sleep or Hibernization enabled so system operates with
processes somehow...

So couple of questions here:
 - Do you mean "Sleep", "Hybernate" or "Hybrid sleep"?
 - Do you see any messages when Power8 icon disappears?
 - Can you open Event Viewer and find any "Application Error" events related to Power8?
 - Do you have any process operating utilities in your system?
 - Can you check with TaskManager that Power8.exe process doesn't exist in system after sleep?
 - Does the icon actually disappear, or maybe it just becomes white or black? (Several Intel HD video adapters have this issue with WPF apps)

Sorry for not answering for long time.

I do have it set to sleep, not hibernate, but Windows 8 is new to me, so I
may have something configured wrongly. I will check. I did find one event;
this doesn't happen all the time, just some of the time. I have checked for
invisible presence, but clicking where the icon should be doesn't do
anything, so I think it's really gone. Here's my error message in the Event
Viewer:

Richard,

thanks for your feedback. Please try this version:
http://power8.googlecode.com/files/P8.Pre-1.4.Debug.7z

It doesn't contain a fix, but it has extended logging that will help me to
identify possible causes of an issue.

Please make it run, then reproduce problem. When Power8 is not available after
system wake-up, go to your %temp% folder and locate file p8log.txt. Email it to
me at agentmc-at-mail-dot-ru. Please do not attach log here since it may
contain sensitive information (such as structure of your start menu).

Pre-1.4 version is the debug version and so it may be slow, thus please do not
use it on the daily basis after the issue is reproduced.

Mike.

Hi -
I haven't put it in, as for some reason I no longer have a problem. It
must have been something in my system, so please remove the bug report.
Sorry.
