would it be possible to add user generated style sheets to enhance popular 
sites for viewing on the nook?

Hi,
I'm not that familiar with custom style sheet stuff and I'm using the webkit 
module 
in Android for all webview rendering. Otherwise, it would have been a big 
effort for 
that itself. So, we are kind of limited by the APIs available in android. 
If you have more specifics/ideas on this, let me know and I'll include it in a 
future release. You can welcome to send me any code changes as well. 

Have you checked out readability filter in settings? I'm using the javascript 
from 
http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/ to remove pics and format the 
pages to 
be suitable for eink. It works well for most pages with lots of text.
