[nookLauncher] Inconsistent buttons -- better ones provided! #95

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
The buttons used by nookLauncher and the nookdevs/nookapps applications are
rather inconsistent: different fonts, no vertical alignment, different
pictrogram sizes, pressed versions mostly look bad.

Instead of merely complaining, I've remade all of the nookdevs/nookapps icons
(attached in two separate ZIPs that extract over the respective source trees).
If the effort is appreciated, I will provide the Inkscape SVG file from which
the buttons were rendered to the nookdevs/nookapps devs. I'm also attaching a
preview PNG showing all of the buttons at 100% resolution in normal state (the
ZIPs include the "pressed" versions as well).

Minor note: As I couldn't determine the font originally used by B&N, I've used
Segoe (ships with Microsoft Windows Vista and above), which looks both
sufficiently aesthetic and clear in my opinion.

In case anyone prefers the new-style B&N design (with buttons being rounded
rectangular areas with a white border and soft drop-shadow), I've made those
too -- just contact me. Note that you need to be able to build the
nookdevs/nookapps APKs yourself in order to deploy them.

great! Thanks.
With the latest launcher, you can change all icons at runtime.
create "my icons" folder ( same level as my documents) and copy the new icons
there.
icons should be named <name1>.png and <name1>_sel.png. then you can just remove
the app from launcher settings and then add back with a different icon.

IF you are interested, we can add the icon sets as a separate download.
Give me your gmail id and I'll grant you developer permission for upload.

"Latest launcher" means that this is possible with the current trunk version?
Great, hadn't realized that!

What's the mapping of names in the icon files, particularly with respect to
upper/lower case? And can non-nookdevs applications (such as Trook) have their
icons overwritten the same way?

yes. code is in the trunk and the .8 version apk includes this.
In Launcher settings, remove all the apps, and before adding back, click on the
icon to change it. icon file name can be anything. mapping is not done
automatically. You will have to select it.

For Launcher settings and B&N Home icons, just clicking them twice will enable
you to change icon.

Ah, OK, now that you explained it, I did get the icon selection at some point
but didn't think of it in this context. Thanks.

i have uploaded the icons and also modified the app so that the background
color matches B&N's and there is no black line between app buttons.
