Just like user blogs http://www.moddb.com/blogs a separate section designated for archived news as well as a simple ability (on the front page) to switch/tab between featured and archived articles.
Perhaps 3-tier article auth system as well. (Authed / archived / private; private would be same as archived, but not displayed on that archived articles page/tab - private setting could be default for unrelated to gaming community groups.)
