I just bought and tested the hama usbc hub 6 port (power delivery and hdmi also included but not tested yet). https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/product/_hama-6-ports-usb-c-hub-schwarz-2868213.html

This is just a sidenote and vaguely related since I initially thought the usbc hub was faulty: After some careful testing, it seems like the chromium browser somehow limits the network speed.

Observation

Using a selfhosted speedtest server (i.e. OpenSpeedTest docker image) over a 1Gb/s wired network (using the mentioned usbc hub), you only achieve about 100Mbit/s while an x86 machine does 950mbit/s up and down and iperf3 (on the ROMA PAD II) also does 1000Mbit/s.

Steps to reproduce

  1. acquire usbc doc with rj45
  2. use wired network to connect to other computer
  3. use iperf3 to check network speeds
  4. observe 1000mbit/s
  5. use openspeedtest with a different x86 machine on the same network
  6. observe +-1000mbit/s
  7. use romapad II chrome browser on openspeedtest
  8. obersve 100mbit/s
