Title: Brand new mega arrive today and cant finf the com port

Description: Hi I have a brand new Arduino mega 2560 that arrive today i have tried to use the n installer and it will not find my com port if i use Arduino IDE it finds the com port . I have previously had issues with dcc++ and jmri working for a few minutes then timing out so i bought a new Arduino Motor Shield Genuine (cost AUD $41 ) as i am in Australia and haven't been able to buy deek robot motor Shield and a clone mega 2560 as a genuine are ($80aud ) and due to COVID it is very hard to find stock and delivery times are 4 + weeks or more So i decided to buy new Clone mega and new motor shield so i know that they should be working and after listening to Toms Trains and things about dcc++ ex and the interview with one of the developers a couple of days ago . i thought it was time to ask for some help . . Has any body had issue with the new software not finding the com port ??

For your comport is it a ch340 chipset instead of the ftdi

@FrightRisk We are trying out the Email Process and in addition to the technical issues we are also doing an Alpha Test of the Support Process and have already found a few issues:

This is the email that I sent Greg Kay:

Greg:

You may have an old version of the installer. You may try to use the version of the Installer in the BaseStation which was released on July 28, 2020.

Please reply to this email after you you see which version of the Installer you are using.

On a separate note: The Deek-Motor Shield is a clone of the Arduino Motor Shield. It does not offer any more benefit that the Arduino Motor Shield.

You may want to look in your Device Driver and see which ComPort the Arduino is listed on.

Stay safe,

Larry

If you look at the gmail link I gave you and create another email and the go to your profile picture from your main account and "add account", you can open that account in another tab. Answer yes that you want the plugin to run on that account. Now you have a similar view to issues, but it will let you email back and forth. So maybe there is a use for that after all ;)

@dexslab Can you help Greg. He replied that he initially used the wrong version, but when trying an updated version that the Installer hung.

This is my response followed by his email:

Greg:

I am not sure why the Installer is not working for you. It is still being tested and appears to work for some situations and not others.

If I read you post, that you were using an Arduino Mega Clone which may have a different chipset than the original. I developer thinks that for your comport is it a ch340 chipset instead of the ftdi chipset and you need to load the ch340 drivers before you do an install.

As far as the Installer, I am going to refer you via Discord to the developer to see if he can help you.

I understand the reason for the Deek Motor Shield and the use of other clones. The problem with hardware clones in general is that they are not exact clones. They may use a different chipset to implement a particular feature and the different chipset works well in some cases and not other. In addition, a number of clone mfg, don’t really understand what they are doing and the result is that their clone is missing features like current sensing that is needed for DCC++ to work.

What problems were you having with DCC++Classic (or Greg’s original software)? Most people were able to get that working with the Arduino IDE.

Stay safe,

Larry

Larry thanks Yes it was an older version .I am now not sure where I got the version. It may have been from a link from toms and trains and things. I have down loaded the automatic version from DCC++ex.com but that will not install even though I have a 64 bit ROG system The Comport is 8

PS I have been trying to get a dcc++ working and this is my 4 complete rebuild from scratch the last 3 using a raspberry PI3B+ and Uno and Deek- robot motor shield kept running for 5 minuets then timing out The only reason I was using the deek robot is it is more than half the price of the genuine

For the current version of the installer in the releases section the ability to see any other comports that do not actively read a board chipset will not detect this will be fixed in a later revision. I will be releasing a new test release on the discord to see if this issue has been resolved with the new way im detecting comports. Please join us so you can have access to that download file. You will need to have 2.1 downloaded in order to use what i will be posting

Fred:

I read this email and the prior email several times and am still not sure what you want me to do. Let’s schedule some time this week, so that you could walk me through exactly what you are thinking.

Stay safe,

Larry
