Augsburg, D-Mbs Clm 4306: Proof folio mapping #588

Open dchiller opened 1 year ago

This manuscript seems to have two duplicated folios (99v and 100r) -- see duplicate images 200 and 202 and duplicate images 201 and 203.

We can correct the serving of those duplicates, but we should verify first that this is a mistake and there is not another reason for both.

I suspect the double images were in the original microfilm. They're not quite identical--the second pair has slightly higher exposure, so there's a little less effect from the ink bleed-through. It's not uncommon to see both in the microfilm reel when the library couldn't decide which one you might want (or forgot they took the picture twice.) I feel pretty confident you could serve images 202/203 in place of 200/201 and nothing would be lost.

this is also another weird one with no texts provided! So "Full Text" is empty, which looks a little silly. (As does the "Play Audio" with no Volpiano to play...). Wonder if we should link to Cantus Index in these kinds of cases?

First pass on the mapping looks good but I haven't done a full scroll-through yet.

@annamorphism For the "duplicates," we could just serve as is and maybe put a note in the sidebar referring to the other folios? Or not serve those two images. Does one make more sense to you?

So, I think we should definitely get rid of the Full Text header when we aren't displaying any text, and get rid of the "Play Audio" button when there is no volpiano....agreed. This is now #606.

In terms of linking to Cantus Index, do you know why there would be a chant like these where there is a Cantus ID and text in the Cantus Index, but Cantus DB doesn't have the text....

annamorphism commented 1 year ago

@dchiller From what I can tell this index dates back to 2008 or so, when fewer of the fields in the DB were required and Cantus Index wasn't it's own site yet. It seems like the texts might have been recorded at some other database at the time, but the link seems to be dead now... I don't know how many sources like this there are--I know there are a few with only incipits and not full texts (again dating from an earlier protocol or lack thereof.)

Closing. This source is being unpublished because it does not have full texts/volpiano.
