Link long-term RSE strategy and central topology #5

Andreas Wegner on Google Doc: I think there is a missing link between long-term character and central topology. That being as it may be, the combination of both is also important in terms of institutional memory/enterprise knowledge management. Maintaining (R)SE capacities and competencies in research institutions could be mentioned alongside maintaining software. A knowledge management with long-term scope is (and experienced RSEs are) likely to also help individual ("spoke") RSEs deal with assessing the relevance and the expected trajectory of whatever is the latest hype.

I am sorry I don't know where else to put this to make it nonobstructive but also visible to the more involved authors/commenters: I apologize for being late to the party and commenting without properly introducing myself. I am Digital Humanities Coordinator at MPI for Legal History and Legal Theory and have so far watched the process more or less from the sidelines. I hope the few comments I have added make sense.

In a sense, I am a single central RSE and continuously facing the challenge of either (negotiating for) ramping up the central RSE or scaling down my contributions to the projects in terms of substantial code contributions/customizations in favor of mere consulting... Thus, I find the position paper very inspiring and helpful already as it is at present, and I hope it continues to make good progress. If I can contribute anything more specific, please feel free to get in touch. (Also via @anwagnerdreas@hcommons.social if preferred)
