Ctrl-dir apparently works on town monsters, but not on him.

Why would you fight poor Bombadil? Anyway, it may have something to do with the GOOD race flag. I'll look into this and get back to you.

He begins in an '(allied)' state. You cannot attack allies. Townsmen are not allies
