Record collecting agent(s) #14

Open cgendreau opened 5 years ago

cgendreau commented 5 years ago

Should be able to enter the Agent and/or Agent Parties (with ordering preserved) who collected the object.

Edit (2020-09-08): Including the verbatim value.

Should be able to enter the Agent and/or Agent Parties (with ordering preserved) who identified/determined the object if there was such an action during the collecting event.

dshorthouse commented 5 years ago

Should be able to enter the optional collector number for the primary Agent who collected the object as is often recorded for botanical specimens.

Is collector number linked to the agent or the collecting event?

dshorthouse commented 4 years ago

@cgendreau - depends how we define a collecting event. It's a sequential number, assigned by the collector, written on a specimen sheet. The DwC term for this is recordNumber, https://dwc.tdwg.org/list/#dwc_recordNumber: "An identifier given to the Occurrence at the time it was recorded. Often serves as a link between field notes and an Occurrence record, such as a specimen collector's number." So, technically it is about the specimen object more than it is about the collecting event.

Ah, that clarifies it. So it's a number assigned BY the collector and not assigned TO the collector. In short, it points to the occurrence, not the collector even if it could be relevant since it may point to field notes.
