No validation mail received on registration

Steps to reproduce

• Register new account with valid mail

Actual result

The registration page displays that the account has been created successfully and that a mail will be sent for validation, but I never got any mail (spam folder checked). No error error found in Administration > Mail > Status nor in catalina.out.
