This looks like an issue with chdkptp.
Please try to run the same command (you can see the command if you run with spread --verbose
) from the command-line and see if that works.
What cameras are you using and what chdkptp version?
This has happened to me. It doesn't happen on a normal text page. It only occurs on some picture plates. In this case, it was a mostly black image of Louis XIV. My A2200 consistently times out during capture in just this way whether I directly use chdkptp or use spreads.
Versions:
CHDK: 1.3 CHDKPTP: 2.6 SPREADS: 5def70d1cecc1a681eaa887a2061c7a97ffb7e8e
I vaguely remember atomotic mentioning similar issues with complex hard to compress images, also with relatively older gear (a2200). If you want to contribute something, try to reproduce this one with a very hard to compress image (lots of small details, colors, relatively big size, ...). It's most likely a chdkptp firmware issue.

Hi, we are from Lab-Experimental, Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica. We followed the steps in this guide http://www.diybookscanner.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2999 to run spreadpi. Everything works fine until the moment when we press the button to Capture in the Web Interface. We are getting the next error message in the terminal
