Feature Request - Being able to sequence synths #10

Open SmoothSailingMusic opened 3 years ago

SmoothSailingMusic commented 3 years ago

Hi there, I would get way more mileage out of my twister if it was able to send midi notes and not just gates in sequencer mode. Being able to sequence a synth with the twister would make it an indispensable component of my workflow. No commits to this repo for 2 years so I hope this project is not dead in the water. Cheers, Stephen

Not sure if this message will reach you - but thanks for the message! This project is not dead on the water and we are commited to updating the twister including great features like you have suggested. Sadly our regular software developer is not with us any more and we have been without a replacement for a while.

Hi Ean,

As a longtime user and fan of the MidiFighter Twister, I've been following the GitHub repo thread in the background for quite some time.
While I haven't done anything directly with the codebase yet, I've significantly expanded the potential of my own Twister through external (custom) midi software, and am well versed in embedded coding/design, as well as Desktop or web-based app development.

I'm curious. You say in the message below that you've been without your regular software developer for a while. Are you looking for one? If so, is your need full-time, part-time or every-once-in-a-while short-term contract (or something else)? I'm an EE/software developer of 15+ years, also a light artist (web site woefully out of date: https://lumieria.com, but some good info about me) and DJ/Performer (https://mystikluminate.com) (these days focused more on producing full tracks/live-PA than DJing) I'm currently gainfully employed over here in Austin (Creative Technologist @ Accenture), but have always had my eyes out for a gig to get me closer to the art/music production/performance world that really drives me. A full job change is something I don't take lightly, as I'm sure you wouldn't take a new hire lightly. That said, kindred spirits passionate about similar things, plus a good fit between need and what I can offer might be worth exploring? I figured I'd ask if you're interested in having a conversation about software (and/or other tech-y) help. If not, no problem.

Keep up the great work!

Hey Dave,

great to hear back from you.

As a longtime user and fan of the MidiFighter Twister, I've been

following the GitHub repo thread in the background for quite some time. While I haven't done anything directly with the codebase yet, I've significantly expanded the potential of my own Twister through external (custom) midi software, and am well versed in embedded coding/design, as well as Desktop or web-based app development.

Could you tell me more about your embedded code/design and desktop app development? Could you point me to some projects you created, updated, or ideally manage (for ongoing publicly used products)

I'm curious. You say in the message below that you've been without your regular software developer for a while. Are you looking for one?

Yes we are looking for one.

If so, is your need full-time, part-time or every-once-in-a-while short-term contract (or something else)?

Part time to short term contract. Our last developer did 10-20 hours per month and that seemed to work out well. Sometimes he wouldn't do anything for a few months and then some features/bugs would stack up and he would do a larger bit of work on a new release.

I'm an EE/software developer e. A full job change is something I don't take lightly, as I'm sure you wouldn't take a new hire lightly.

We definitely don't have the work right now to support a full time developer, but that is not something which we wouldn't rule out in the future. At the moment we need a consistent and reliable contract developer who could provide 5-20 hours a month and commit to being our recourse for at least the next 24 months in that capacity. (We don't want to onboard multiple people)

Keep up the great work!

Okay I appreciate the transparent reply @eangolden ! Big cheers!

eangolden commented 3 years ago

Can I assume that you are not interested in working with us in a part time contract capacity?

supertwang commented 3 years ago

Ean,

My humblest apologies for returning your message so late! Your response to my initial enquiry landed in my Spam filter and I only just found it. I figured "Oh well, they've got to be busy over there, they're probably not interested." Meanwhile you've probably been thinking, "What a flake!" or some such.

Your description of who you're looking for sounds like a really fun role, doing stuff I love, that'd be paced enough even, to coexist with full time employment. It remains tempting for me, but I have to be responsible enough to admit that I am not a good fit for it. I have ambitions of my own during my non-working spare time and a tendency to take on more than I can realistically handle. I'd be a great fit for the odd project here and there, but I can't responsibly take on the two year commitment that'd make sense for you/DJ Tech Tools. I completely understand that you'd want such a commitment before investing in a new contract relationship.

In any case, I'm happy to have reached out and met you, and appreciate you taking the time to respond. Again, with apologies, for my failing to see your reply until now.

Perhaps we'll cross paths again in the future, on a stage, in an audience or in the world of music tech? Until then, I wish you all the best success in your endeavors.

Dave
