Maybe add a link in the error text when the orcid login fails? The common issue is that mail visibility settings are located away from other orcid settings and a bit 'hidden', so they get forgotten... To explain where to find the settings & how to edit them might be a bit much to just put in the error text, but a link to some docu sounds good
Add link to wiki with help on mail visibility settings: https://github.com/DMPbelgium/Guidance/wiki/ORCID-log-in#how-to-sign-in-via-orcid Priority for next release to production @nicolasfranck
I was experiencing login issues over ORCID and found the solution via this Github issue, the error I recieved was very general:
If possible, providing a bit more guidance here or a link to the ORCID help page would be helpful. I only noticed the "help with logging in via orcid" link later, because I initially didn't feel like I would need the help, I authenticate on other platforms via orcid all the time.
On a similar note, I'm not sure I feel comfortable setting my institutional email adres to be my primary email for ORCID. I don't really understand why this would be neccesairy to be honest.
@PietrH dmponline.be does not provide any kind of registration form. All registration is done automatically, but that comes with some caveats, especially for ORCID:
@StCyr do you see anything else in the logs that may provide some additional insight. I though we already covered this problem.

* as there is no user record in dmponline yet, there is no matching on orcid possible yet (see further) * every user in dmponline.be needs an email, that is the primary identifier, and we need a way to inform users of any activity on their plans. But we need an email from a trusted/validated source. ORCID ensures that only primary emails are returned that were validated. You only need to set this email to "trusted sources" during this first setup. This won't be publicly visible on your orcid page. * once the user is created in dmponline (with email and orcid), the second time the user can be matched on orcid alone. Feel free to set the email back to private in ORCID * as (probably?) documented, you are assigned to an organization based on the domain of your email address, and that will determine your rights.

Thanks for the quick reply, I've actually tried setting a different email back after the account was created, but then I can't login again with the same error:
I was also completely unable to login until I set my institutional address as primary.
The non institutional email I tried before is available to third parties, but not publicly visible.
I cannot recall how many times I had to explain the necessary steps to execute in order to successfully login with ORCID, especially as the account is managed by the user itself.
Is documented internally at ugent, but now also here. Copy the whole thing into dmponline, or provide a link to it (with a question link next to the "login with orcid")?
