RFE: Tilt-based movement control for keyboard-less devices #1

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Allow for movement by tilting the device so Q3A would be playable on devices
without a keyboard (such as Nexus One)

Playing on my Samsung Captivate - MAN it is awesome - getting on average 60fps
but I cant shoot, so... kind of pointless.

Just installed and played on my Supersonic. The port played very nicely with a
little key binding. I was able walk around, look and shoot though I'd need to
get used to the tilt controls before getting a kill in. Happy to test more and
provide better feedback once I sit and play with the binds and controls a bit
more. Very nice work sir thank you!

Game works great on samsung galaxy mini (s5570) probably thenks 320x240 native
resolution but as it is touch screen only device game is not playeble: no fire
button joypads moving all along the screen etc.

Got a LG Optimus 2X and the performance is just insane! Sadly it's unplayable
because the device has no trackball and no hardware keys beside vol+/- and
power..
I would really like to invest some money to crowd source a real playable
version of the game..

What about look using compass... its the more realistic looking. Try google
skymap to see it in action.

Look: Compass
Move: Sound vol.
Fire: OnScreen
Switch weap: Onscreen
Use item: OnScreen
Jump/stand: Accelerometer up
Crouch: Accederometer down

Tried on a Motorola Xoom WiFi. Binded:

bind F3 "toggleconsole"
bind F2 "+attack"
bind LEFTARROW "+moveleft"
bind RIGHTARROW "+moveright"

It would be great if you included your own q3config.cfg with LEFTARROW and
RIGHTARROW bound so the initial experience using the joysticks is more pleasant.

Why is it that the left joystick controls aim and the right joystick controls
strafing? It is reversed compared to any other touchscreen FPS and I find
myself struggling with it being reversed (unless you use your mouse on the
left...)

On the Xoom at least, after doing a benchmark, I cannot toggle console... and
after that I cannot un-toggle the console, so I cannot quit the game.

Also, the Xoom does not seem to allow you to bind the Menu virtual key. There
is also no Search virtual key, ever, in Honeycomb.

Also yes please have accelerometer for strafe and perhaps gyroscope or camera
to turn (like those annoying augmented reality games.)

Apologize for my ignorance. I have a CX-01, with android 4.0.4. Using a
keyboard and mouse, like a pc. It's actually a mini pc. To play quake3, have
always used the keyboard and mouse, and PC. As I can set this game, or android,
so to play?. From already thank you.
