I'm using this setup as an authoritative DNS server for my home network. This addition allows me to add additional zones easily

This is great (and something I should have merged a long time ago).

Would you mind updating the documentation in order to mention this feature?

Is the configuration still properly parsed if the directory doesn't exist or is empty?
