Request to remove articles from DOAJ #127

Closed dommitchell closed 11 months ago

Due to the publisher uploading errors, these 2 articles need to be removed. The matching process didn't work because the publisher changed the ISSN AND the titles!

Before fixing this, could you give me a bit more detail on how they were created? Was this through a file upload, or through direct metadata entry.

It occurs to me that direct metadata entry doesn't de-duplicate like the file import does, so we might need to do something about that!

I note that the fulltext urls are the same, and that should therefore trigger the update rather than a create.

I can remove these from the live site, just a note of warning that it will not be possible to recover the data.

I don't think we're even working on per-article management in this phase (correct me if I'm wrong) so this is something to consider for future development.

dommitchell commented 10 years ago

could you give me a bit more detail on how they were created?

It was done using file upload.

direct metadata entry doesn't de-duplicate like the file import does

Yes, this is necessary. I think we've got a long road ahead of us persuading publishers that they no longer need to upload entire issues.

that it will not be possible to recover the data.

All good. Please proceed!

emanuil-tolev commented 10 years ago

Will add a new page to the admin area: "Full DOAJ search with ID-s" - right now it's just really difficult to get the exact objects to delete, and thus to make sure the right stuff is being deleted.

The new page will be exactly like the user-facing search, except that it will also show internal item ID-s. That way, if a particular search on the public-facing search page showcases duplicates, all we have to do is replicate the search in the admin area and take note of the item ID-s to be deleted.

dommitchell commented 10 years ago

A further 4 articles to remove. These were uploaded using the article-by-article uploader so it was manual data entry error!

However, during the uploading process we mistakenly uploaded articles of Science Diliman (vol. 25. no. 2) in Social Science Diliman (vol. 9 no. 2). We want to take out the Science Diliman articles from the Social Science Diliman list. Below are the titles:

 * An Account of the Accessioned Specimens in the Jose Vera Santos

Memorial Herbarium, University of the Philippines Diliman * A Manifestation of Climate Change? A Look at Typhoon Yolanda in Relation to the Historical Tropical Cyclone Archive * Dolphin Watching in the Southern Tañon Strait Protected Seascape, Philippines: Issues and Challenges * Determination of Monochloroacetic Acid in Swimming Pool Water by Ion Chromatography-Conductivity Detection * Fixed-point Theorem and the Nishida-Nirenberg Method in Solving Certain Nonlinear Singular Partial Differential Equations

Problem with article upload matching algorithm: I don't know if the matching algorithm that was implemented is working correctly, at least the overwrite isn't working:

Look at http://bit.ly/1nSVeCK - 1st 3 articles at the top: 1st article: is the correct one, the 2nd upload on 21st March 2nd article: was the 1st upload on 21st March but contained an incorrect publication date, 2014 instead of 2013 3rd article: original entry that now has an incorrect link to the article and that the publisher tried to overwrite.

Why didn't the articles overwrite?

dommitchell commented 10 years ago

An example of 2 more articles that didn't overwrite: http://bit.ly/1dH2V5e

THE FREQUENCY OF ALLELIC VARIANTS OF THE VITAMIN K-EPOXIDOREDUCTAS E GENE IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME and the identical article below it.

Is this just a request to remove those articles, or is this because of a duplication issue? They appear to be unique within the system, and do have different fulltext urls.

richard-jones commented 10 years ago

@emanuil-tolev - I've now pushed some fixes to the de-duplication code, so I'm re-assigning this to you do update the live server.

This is a request to remove them completely. They are not duplicates.

Please remove the 1st article in search results: http://bit.ly/1kvddcE with end page number 27. It is incorrect.

In the version of the DOAJ that will be rolled out next week I have added a "delete this article" option in the Admin area. The DOAJ team will then be able to remove articles at their own discretion.

@dommitchell - I've assigned this to you so the removals can be actioned next week.
