ONRR IT Policy Review 2024 GSA’s Policy Framework Summary of Criteria M-24-08: Strengthening Digital Accessibility and the Management of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
Hello,
In order to meet the requirements of M-24-08: Strengthening Digital Accessibility and the Management of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, all agencies must complete an IT policy review by mid-June. You have been identified as someone who should be reviewing some of the policies covered by this requirement.
Please use the ONRR IT Policy Review 2024 shared spreadsheet to complete the review described in this email by May 30.
As per M-24-08: “Within 180 days of issuance of this memorandum, agencies shall conduct a comprehensive assessment of agency policies to ensure that ICT accessibility considerations are incorporated in all relevant agency functions; develop a plan to update agency policies to align with the requirements of this memorandum, as needed; ensure any changes to policies are also updated in agency digital strategies; and make ICT accessibility policies publicly available.”
GSA has provided a spreadsheet with policy types and subtypes to facilitate the review. Here’s how to use the sheet by tab (in order of how they appear on the sheet):
• READ ME - provides some guidance for completing the review sheet.
• Policy Review Tracker - where you will enter information about the policies you review. • Policy Type and Subtype Counts – do not enter anything – this tab is auto-populated. • Policy Need Counts - do not enter anything – this tab is auto-populated. • Policy type tabs (all other tabs) – these tabs list the policy subtypes for which we believe you each are responsible or co-responsible. Review these tabs – your name will be listed in the first column along with the policy subtype we think you should be reviewing. If you have any questions or discrepancies, or believe someone else should be reviewing subtypes assigned to you, let me know. o Some subtypes have more than one person assigned. I encourage you to work with the other people assigned that subtype to determine who is reviewing what.
Some additional tips for completing the review: • Some columns have drop down options – check for this before entering data into a cell. If the drop-down options exist, please select from one of those – do not enter new text into that field. • Some columns are auto-populated – there is a note of this in the column header.
• Columns U, V, and W use a rating system created by GSA. For details on what each option means – review GSA’s Policy Framework Summary of Criteria. • Not all columns are applicable to every policy. Complete what you can for the policy you’re reviewing. If I need more information I’ll ask you after I have a chance to review. • We do not have to review any policies we use that are at the DOI-level. Our DOI Section 508 Program Manager has confirmed he will review those policies.
Please complete your reviews in the ONRR IT Policy Review 2024 sheet by May 30 and let me know when you are finished. This will allow me time to clean up the sheet before the deadline. Starting in May, I’ll send reminders to those I have not heard from. Note that currently, there is no requirement to change or amend the policies – we’re just reviewing and indicating areas where 508 language can be added or strengthened.
