MARCI Variable Exposure Table "varexp.tab" Needs to Be Updated #5145

Open dpmayerUSGS opened 1 year ago

dpmayerUSGS commented 1 year ago

ISIS version(s) affected: >= 3.4.9

Description
marcical references a file in the ISIS data area, "varexp.tab" which contains variable exposure times of MARCI observations. This file is updated in the PDS as part of most of the (quarterly) MARCI data releases, but there is as of yet no automated process of updating the file in the ISIS data area with the latest one from the PDS.

"varexp.tab" was updated in MRO release 64 (1 March 2022). This is the first update to the table in several MRO release cycles. The copy of "varexp.tab" in the ISIS data area is now out of date, so marcical won't have correct variable exposure times if a user tries to process recently-collected data.

Possible Solution
Add the latest (MRO release 64 67) version of the MARCI variable exposure table and label to the ISIS data area:

- https://pds-imaging.jpl.nasa.gov/data/mro/marci/mrom_1400/index/varexp.tab - https://pds-imaging.jpl.nasa.gov/data/mro/marci/mrom_1400/index/varexp.lbl EDIT: The variable exposure table has been further updated since I first opened this issue. Latest version is here: - https://asc-pds-mars-reconnaissance-orbiter.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/MARCI/mrom_1493/index/varexp.tab - https://asc-pds-mars-reconnaissance-orbiter.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/MARCI/mrom_1493/index/varexp.lbl

Additional context
cf. #4710 for the last time this file was updated, and #3489 some discussion of some ways this file could be updated automatically in the future. I previously opened #4969 but failed to notice at the time that the table hadn't changed. This time I confirmed that the table has changed before opening the issue.

I've updated the URLs in the original issue. The variable exposure table has been updated twice since this issue was originally opened. Would be great to get this fixed.
