Branched off of #37, so that needs to get merged in first.

Can't build habitat_lakes.png myself bc I can't build any of the 05_predictions stuff. A bit of a pickle that I am not sure how to get out of ...

@lindsayplatt can you pull upstream and push again? I want to see the fresh stuff and I think you have some commits in here that were in the PR I just merged.
