Monitoring chapter (which now includes former Importance chapter):

• ~do you mention brown trout because you are talking about bigger rivers? Generally, more people care about brook trout, but they tend to be in the smaller streams. Would probably be better to refer to brook trout.~
• ~Also, in this paragraph, you could broaden the relevance by also talking about other management activities that can influence temperature like riparian buffering and reducing impervious surface near important streams. Focusing just on reservoir releases seems a bit limiting.~
• ~Some language feels dense (ex.water temp implications in importance section, description of modeling/monitoring in importance section)~
  • ~“Implication for temperature modeling” paragraph seems to undermine the monitoring that is there. Sounds like data can’t answer any of the questions people care about. Would suggest rewording. Or state what questions data can answer. Definitely a balance of why we need modeling without undermining monitoring effort.~ reworked
  • ~“Increases in river water temperature are happening all over the globe, and in the Delaware River Basin, urbanization, climate change, and human modification of hydrology can all increase water temperature.”~
  • ~This is a dense sentence. Consider simplifying.~

I think it still highlights our point that the combo of natural variation and human modifications create a network of pretty diverse temperature signals.~
• "At first glance, it appears that there is a lot of information about stream temperature in the basin. The map below shows all of the locations where the USGS or other agencies have ever measured the temperature of medium to large streams."
  • Specify these other agencies somewhere? Maybe a click-on popup?
  • Do these measurement statistics refer to availability of average daily T or all T measurements? There are many individual T measurements that represent stream T at a certain time of day and not the average daily stream T. I think that somewhere in the viz you should explain that stream T has a diurnal signal and that average daily T is used in the analysis. (NTH)

  • ~Reword: 'The uptick in temperature modeling since 2017 can ....' (NTH)~
  • ~Change “by cable” to 'by fiber optic cable' (NTH)~

  • ~I think this last question will be difficult for the layperson to understand - it includes effects of climate change on reservoir temperatures as well as the amount of water stored in the reservoir. Maybe you need to say a little more about this~ - revised

Modeling chapter: ~Text: “…and then the weighted sum is adjusted…”~

• ~I was a little confused by this statement and wasn't sure how it related to the size of the yellow, purple and pink circles. Maybe it is more information than is needed?~
  • ~Edit text to fit better w/ what flubber is doing. Maybe different rule example?~
• ~The text says ‘0.01%’ but I think you mean ‘0.1%’. 0.1% seems very small. Is there a reason to go so small? 10% is pretty common. [0.1% is correct]~
• ~I would mention that the ‘hidden layer’ can actually be many, many layers. This would help give people a better feel for the complexity of ANNs.~
• ~In the “eventually,…” text box, I would make it clear that the predictions are based on all the data across all the locations, not just based ‘…on the training data’.~
