@thesteve0 Thanks! I really want to solicit the opinion of the rest of the board on this, so guys, please feel free to speak up openly. I'm new OpenShift, but here's my initial take:
@thesteve0 I like the idea. I will second @tlberglund in my own way of saying something similar. I think the best responses at DOSUG are for talks that help our audience bridge what they need to do but aren't, or are, but are doing less well than they could to a future filled with :rainbow: and :unicorns: (why is that not an emoji?).
Our audience could be described as:
Thoughts?
Hi @thesteve0 ! Haven't heard from you in a while, but wanted to let you know we're still keen to talk about this for May. Any thoughts on the above to bring this to fruition? Thanks in advance!
Looking to put the data here once ready to go http://meetup.denveropensource.org/events/112443962/
@mojavelinux Do you happen to have email contact info for @thesteve0? Super interested in having him for May, but haven't heard from him in a while.
Sorry I haven't replied I have been swamped with travel and work. What dates were you thinking? Thanks Steve On Apr 22, 2013 8:51 AM, "Matthew McCullough" notifications@github.com wrote:

Was still hoping for the May date as we kind of held it for you, but if that doesn't work out, we'll try to make a plan B.

Hi Steven,
Tuesday, May 7th is our venue-planned meeting date. Happy to have you address our group if you can make it.
Cheers, -Matthew
I might be able to make that date. What time is the meetup? Thanks Steve

Hi Steve!
The Meetup begins at 5:30. We chat, grab pizza, late people like me roll in.
From 6 to 9 (or maybe 8:30?) the speaker rocks the podium (with a 15 min break in between for more pizza).
After the meetup, we sometimes re-convene at a local pub for beer and snacks.
The meetup location is at The Innovation Pavilion, 9200 e mineral ave, centennial, co 80112 (NOT at the Microsoft building, that's the old location.)
To see previous talk topics, audience interests, etc. checkout the DOSUG meetup page: http://meetup.denveropensource.org/
And now I'll stop hijacking this conversation and turn it back over to Matthew
Hope to see you soon, Steve! -Sarah
@graphitefriction So appreciative of you supplying the data during Finland's night. Not a hijack. Such a help. your contribs, always, @graphitefriction.
I am in - buying my tickets now.
What would you like me to talk about.
I will come in on Tues afternoon and then leave Wed afternoon.
Thanks Steve

Will the meeting also be at Microsoft? Or somewhere else? I would like to get my hotel close to the venue or the bar ;). Thanks Steve

With that much time available let's do a hands on workshop. We will get everyone creating an app with a DB on OpenShift and during it we can have a ton of questions. Sound good? You want me to buy pizza and drinks? Steve

Steven,
Historically, there's a real mix of whether folks bring laptops or not. Is there a way to simulate a workshop by so-to-speak letting the audience verbally drive, thereby creating a workshop-like experience.
I'm on a plane from Germany back to the states, so I'll let my brilliant USA DOSUG compatriots weight in here for shaping the plan.
Let me say how delighted I am that you'll be able to make it.
I'm at 303-883-6997 if you need anything at all. I'm teaching the next few days, but you can always get me by email during business hours and then phone in after-business hours (Mountain Time Zone).
We actually have a wonderful food and drink sponsor, but thank you so much for offering to make the evening doubly nice!
To clarify, shape the length to what you know would keep attention best. We've also had some super successful 40m and 40m two-part talks. I'm sure you know best what the right durations are. Just let us know so we can prep the audience and announce the talks.
Cheers, -Matthew, Tim, Mike, Mark, Dan and Jordan for DOSUG
Ok folks, can you please let me know of a link Openshift and I can promote for the event. What is the location - I still haven't gotten a hotel.
Here is the talk I will basically be giving though I will change a little bit of the wording and topic sentence http://presentations-techsmacktalk.rhcloud.com/judconbrworkshop/index.html#/
The outline is: 1) 10 minutes of learning about PaaS and cloud 2) Then everyone is making a Java (or Python or Node.js) application 3) Then everyone does a quick code change and deploys- they have all now used a PaaS 4) Now we add MongoDB 5) Merge a git repo 6) Does some shell comands 7) Walk through some code.
In Brazil and other places I have had some people follow along with others or just watch the Festivities. Does that work for everyone. Sorry it has taken me a while to respond - I am battling a cold.
Thanks Steve
@thesteve0 I'm on the road teaching in L.A. so I'll let me colleagues fill in some details tonight or tomorrow if possible, but I can get you that event URL right away:
http://meetup.denveropensource.org/events/112443962/
The address is:
The Innovation Pavilion 9200 E Mineral Ave, Centennial, CO
There's a plethora of solid hotel choices around that area, or just a little farther south (5 minutes) such as the "Marriott Tech Center South".
@danhillenbrand could you pop this updated outline and evening recipe into our Meetup site? It would be great to indicate that this can be both a follow-along-with-your-own-laptop opportunity, should you want to learn from it that way.
@thesteve0 Any thoughts about the time-to-content-outline plan for the 40m + 40m segments for us to put on the site? In short, do your past runs suggest what fits into the first 40m and the second 40m that Dan can list?
Sorry to hear about your cold. Mend soon!
I can break whenever we need to break. Maybe 40 minutes until they all push their first code change and we can break there.
Also, laptop is encouraged - it's more fun that way. I assume there will be network - is that an ok assumption?
Thanks Steve

The network is definitely present. It can flake out from time to time, but as long as we are able to retry things (e.g. "run that command again ladies and gents"), we'll be in good shape.
Close enough for Open Source work ;)

I've updated the web page for this...check it out and let me know if it needs some tuning: http://meetup.denveropensource.org/events/112443962/
Sadly, I will miss this session as I'm headed out of town for some off-site work next week.
Best of luck for a great meeting!

Great job, @thesteve0! After we got the Internet figured out, this was a super cool demo of a technology I just might put into personal use soon. You did a fantastic job with a user group workshop, which I happen to know is no simple thing. :)
Thanks Time! It was a great time - good audience, great questions, and it all worked. So one other thing - for the geospatial session - I am willing to come back because that is my passion. Let me know if you want me to give one of the talks or something. I am also willing to do a half or full day workshop for DOSUG on the weekend on this stuff. Thanks Steve

@thesteve0 We would love to have you back out for a geospatial talk. It might be early next year just to make room for other folks, but you are definitely on the "welcome back at DOSUG" list. :grinning:
I'll second that, even though I missed your talk on Tuesday. My bosses' boss did attend and highly recommended that I attend any future talks from you.
Great Job!--Dan

@thesteve0 Wanted you to know you left quite an impression. Folks at KForce were talking about the interactivity and quality of your DOSUG visit. So appreciative of your flight, travel, and talk!
@thesteve0 @ghessler of the Colorado Springs User Group would love to talk to you about a speech at his group as well. It meets on a different cycle and date than our DOSUG, but I wanted to make the intro here and then let you gents take it to a new discussion via email or such...
Hi @thesteve0,
Can you drop me an e-mail at ghessler@gmail.com and let me know if you could do a presentation for us sometime? I can provide available dates and you can let me know what might work for you.
Thanks,
Gary
Hey Folks: How about a hands on session with OpenShift in May? I can do two types of talks - hands on and get your app going on OpenShift Online (in any of the languages and with any of our datastores) OR if we want to spin up our instances of OpenShift Origin PaaS in a VM? Let me know if you are interested and we can start to schedule. spousty@redhat.com is also where you can reach me. Thanks Steve CP
