Open Source Adoption in the Conservative Enterprise #8

@DOSUG/boardmembers I've mentioned this, but Perficient has indicated willingness to sponsor a speaker for April. Here's my slightly modified take on the abstract they've submitted to us.

Talk Abstract

Many of us rely on open-source software every day, and work in places that adopt it without controversy. Nevertheless, we can't forget that some very conservative—one might say reactionary!—organizations still put up barriers to using the open-source tools and libraries we know and love. This is a problem worth fixing.

Josh Asbury, Director of the Americas for Liferay, discusses important considerations when using open source technologies for mission-critical applications, as well as strategies for overcoming obstacles to adopting open-source solutions within the organization. He will cover:

Joshua Asbury is Liferay's Director of the Americas. Josh draws on his experience in deploying enterprise portal strategy, software development and business process analysis to ensure that customers are positioned for success with Liferay. Before joining Liferay in 2009, Josh held positions at SDRC, Hillenbrand Industries' Batesville Casket Company division, and his own portal development company. Josh holds a B.S. in Systems Analysis from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Bonus Sponsor

The speaker for this event is being sponsored by Perficient [NASDAQ: PRFT], a national technology consulting company. Perficient is one of the most decorated IBM, Microsoft, TIBCO, Oracle, and Salesforce.com partners in North America, with over 2,000 experts delivering business-driven technology solutions. Perficient became a Liferay Gold Solutions Partner in 2013.

Perficient will be giving away a Kindle Fire HD tablet (8.9" 32GB) to a lucky DOSUG attendee.

@tlberglund I've put this up on the website, pretty much as-is. I did give it the headline: "Considerations for Using Open Source Technologies". Let me know if that works! http://www.meetup.com/DOSUG1/events/160848332/
