ADF Needle remains in current position in ADF Mode when no signal received — incorrect #9

I would humbly ask for your source for this. Because throughout all my flying career the the needle on this ADF has 'parked' in the 270-90 position when no signal was received.

Hi, Thanks for your comment.
It is a while since I flew with this equipment. I know the more modern KR87 ADF does this (90 degree position) in ANT position etc. For the Cessna 300 (Type R-546E) I have not found a specific reference for the needle behaviour - no signal and BFO/REC etc. Can you confirm the behaviour for this particular unit?

Hi, I'll try to do what I can. Due to the pandemic limitations I don't have immediate access to the aircraft.

Hi Thanks.

Appreciate your advice and assistance.

I have seen various references, certainly to the King radios driving the needle to a 90deg parked position, but also some cautions in some documents that other ADF equipment may not behave the same way, but without specifics. For the King radios, the ANT position is effectively the TEST position, so there needs to be a positive needle movement. The Cessna radio obviously has a separate TEST position. I don't recall how the old Cessna radios behaved in this situation and I don't have access to this equipment any more. Due to the lack of (or inconsistent) indications of failure with the ADF equipment, in every case that the needle indications were critical I always relied on constant monitoring of the NDB ident etc.

For now I will leave as is. If it is possible to get more definitive information regarding the specific Cessna radio, I will adjust it.

I believe in the case where the radio has failed, is manually switched off, or has switched off due low voltage etc, the needle should remain in current position, due no power avail to drive needle to park position.
