Hmm, I agree. It's often hard to define ourselves but harder in a project. Someone can have different roles depending on the project, like a researcher in which the person is actively involved, a developer for another project, or a mentor for another one. Is it what you are referencing? We can establish a list of roles and responsibilities to help the people involved or want to be involved.

I can imagine a process where someone comes in and picks their persona/archetype, then they pick what kind of things they are interested in, and then they get given instructions for how to contribute and/or a list of "GitHub issues" that might be relevant for them.
Different people will be able to contribute in different ways. If we have some archetypes/personal written out, it will help people figure out where it is best for them to start.
