Feedback/Suggestions on how to make sonic more viable late-game as well as feel better #20

Hi, this is my first time using GitHub, so I'm not sure if this is the right place to give this kind of feedback. I also don't know if feedback/suggestions are what you're looking for, so I apologize if this is a little unsolicited.

I've been playing with your mod for a while, and I really like it! But I've noticed that although sonic has very prominent strengths, he can be frustratingly unable to handle certain, specific situations. In particular, unless he has enough damage to kill them in one use of Grand Slam, he doesn't really have a solution to deal with enemies that deal damage on contact and groups of bunched up, high damage enemies. It can feel like to even have the opportunity to attack, you have to risk instantly dying in a way that can't be mitigated. He struggles with this because he has to get much closer than other melee character's to deal damage.

While I definitely think it's good for a character to have distinct strengths and weaknesses, I think he struggles a little too much. And, barring having the right items (Which can be rng dependent) it can feel like he is unable to deal with these situations altogether.

I should mention I play exclusively with the parry ability simply because parry abilities are really fun. I recognize Sonic Boom might be better at handling these situations, but parry is simply too enjoyable a mechanic to pass up for me. I also think that, with Sonic Boom being your only source of (Non-item) damage in these hypothetical situations, it doesn't really solve the problem to equip it either.

So, here are my suggestions for how to make him more viable in these situations:

1: Remove the cooldown for parrying if you do it successfully. I've noticed this is a feature in other mods with parry mechanics I've played (Hunk, Myst) and it really encourages skillful, precise use of the parry. (It also just feels better) Since parry gives you i-frames for a little bit longer than the actual ability, I think it could be a good way for Sonic to handle situations where getting hit is unavoidable. Allowing him to deal with the situations I've described (Enemies that deal damage on contact, big groups of high damage/hp enemies) as long as the player is skillful enough and is paying attention.

2: Or, alternatively, give Sonic a means of a ranged attack, even with Parry equipped. For example, giving him a weaker version of Sonic Boom if he boosts in the air.

P.S: A couple more miscellaneous ideas:
