Developers logos appear but after the last one it's just a black screen

Holding L does nothing and this could be AP related but no patch of it exist from what I can find. The sequel, The Nameless Game: Eye (Nanashi no Game: Me) works fine.

Tried using the original Japanese version and 0.26.1 and it still doesn't work

So apparently there's actually a cheat you need to activate in order to bypass the black screen. DSJ's cheat database has it for the Japanese version, but unfortunately doesn't shows up for the English translation (though I would assume the cheat would work the same). I tried the cheat for the Japanese version and was able to get to the main menu.

So it turns out that the latest version of DeadSkullzJr's cheat database actually has the black screen fix cheat for the English translation of the game. I used that cheat and was able to start the game. I'm going to close this issue for now since there's actually a solution.

There appear to be some issues on the latest version (v1.0.1) on my DSi. The game is now able to boot into the title screen without needing a cheat. However once you try inputting your name to create a new file the screen turns black for like 5 seconds and causes a DATA ABORT crash. Oddly enough you can bypass this by naming your character "AAA" (so far it appears to be working but I'm not that far into the game yet). The crash still happens even with cheat fixes on (I believe I'm still using an older copy of the cheat database)

Upon further inspection, it looks like only certain characters are causing it to crash. For example Using names like "Bob" or "Sora" works but "Nora" and "Nikki" doesn't. The weirdest one is "Skyler" doesn't work but "Skylar" or "SkySky" does, so it's not the length that's causing it. This could be an issue with the english patch itself and not necessarily nds-bootstrap, but I still need to test using the original Japanese version and also on an emulator. I'm also curious if using a save file pass the first save point would work as well.

Turning off the card read DMA doesn't change anything.
