Notes for Lab 01 #1

Hello!

I just watched the weekly review session and noticed that Prof. Lecy was referencing lecture notes, however, I have not been able to find this document in the Unit 1 material. The portions of the document that I saw were in reference to attrition. Also, Lab 1 refers to "happy" randomization which is not a term that I am familiar with, so perhaps this is also something that I missed which was in the lecture notes? Are these lecture notes something that we will need to complete the lab, and if so, where can I find them?

Bethany - I was just using an image of the graph from the chapter pasted into a power point for reference. I just added some notes here from the session, though, if helpful.

The attrition reference is from next week's lecture notes on counterfactual validity.

And "happy" randomization is covered next week. This assignment is partly priming you for the lectures next week by introducing concepts and giving them context.

Randomization is "happy" if treatment and control groups are equivalent (subjects have identical measured characteristics prior to treatment). We talked about the challenge establishing group equivalency in this study in the video. They hide this important detail in the comments of Table 2.
