Hello all! I am Josephine (Jo) Louie, at Education Development Center (EDC) in Boston. I am the PI for two NSF-funded grant projects focused on promoting data literacy among historically marginalized and underserved students. One project, Strengthening Data Literacy across the Curriculum (SDLC), is developing and studying curriculum modules to promote statistical thinking and interest in data analysis through social justice data investigations using large-scale social science data, targeting high school non-AP mathematics and statistics classes. Here is a link to more info: http://cadrek12.org/projects/strengthening-data-literacy-across-curriculum-sdlc. Here is a link to our project video (below). The other project, WeatherX, is developing and studying curriculum materials to promote data literacy and career interests in data science among rural middle-school students with science units that examine extreme weather phenomena using data from NOAA (http://stelar.edc.org/projects/22767/profile/understanding-weather-extremes-big-data-inspiring-rural-youth-data-science).
