Variants won't update if the main component is in an external library

Describe the bug I'm using a big library, and no matter what symbol I try to use from that library, I can't get to change the variant via the spreadsheet. However, if I turn that symbol local, then the variants update just fine.

To Reproduce Can't share figma or spreadsheet, but It should be easy to reproduce

Expected behavior Variables changing even when components are being used from an external library

I'm having this same problem. Trying to update texts within variants of a main component in a library and it doesn't apply. If texts are local, it works just fine
