1 year ago I just created another ticket for Different speeds of flow, my thought is the river could run at different speeds depending on where you are in the river. Maybe behind rocks you can stand still, but then just to the left or right the current would be extra strong?
You can swim forward using shift, then you can change your direction using wasd, also you can go up or down using q and e. When there is no input you will just flow along with the river current.
