Bringing to IOI:
Detailed understanding of the technical, social and policy aspects of many open infrastructure-related issues and proposed IOI interventions, based on two decades of initially volunteer and increasingly professional experience with a range of open systems, especially at the interfaces between scholarly research and Wikimedia projects, and between policy, infrastructure and communities. First-hand knowledge of various organizational structures, from unorganized to centuries-old society, from non-profit and philanthropy to for-profit, from non-government to government, from small to large. Dense network of contacts in and around the open infrastructure space. Experience with openness in disaster preparedness and response.
Helping IOI:
Keeping an eye on developments in various parts of the open ecosystem. Providing use cases. Designing and implementing prototypes in terms of policies, infrastructures and community engagement. Designing and performing research to test the suitability of certain approaches for achieving IOI goals, and integrating such considerations with said prototypes. Designing and implementing outreach strategies to reach communities of relevant stakeholders as necessary during different phases of IOI development. Designing and running IOI-focused events. Watching out for aspects of IOI that transcend traditional boundaries.
Wikimedia (especially Wikidata/ WikiCite) and open research as well as scholarly publishing
Knows both sides of majority/ minority divides in a range of demographic contexts. Lived in five countries on three continents for more than six months after graduation. Can moderate discussions in four languages, understands several more. Thrives in collaborative and multidisciplinary environments. Loves to experiment with different approaches to tricky problems and can convert such experimentation into functional prototypes.
