Document my engagement with open-source hardware

Take a close look at open-source hardware, and document my engagement with it.

So far, I have watched open-source hardware mostly from the sidelines, only occasionally getting hands-on. I see several avenues for diving deeper, and I will try to explore them thoughout the year:

• participate in the ongoing community review of the open-source hardware literature, which uses Wikidata/Scholia as a backbone (e.g. see Scholia's topic profile for open hardware)
• exploring reproducibility aspects of open hardware, e.g. compare calibration data between original and remote copy, and how open hardware interacts with other aspects of reproducibility, e.g. computational reproducibility
• explore community aspects, e.g. which communities support open-source hardware, and how do they intersect with other open communities, from Wikimedia to open science, open-source software, open data and citizen science
• exploring the ethical sourcing of the material basis of open hardware — this seems not to get much attention yet in scientific contexts, but players such as Fairphone are good examples to study here

The Open Hardware Allianz https://open-hardware-allianz.de/ runs a mailing list that I tried to subscribe to (twice), with no luck so far (UPDATE: Found the registration confirmation email for the mailing list in my spam folder.). But I received an invite to a Signal group today, which I joined.
