Here is a project that uses open hardware and open-source software to produce open data about some key facets of air quality: http://sensor.community/ provides the hard- and software as well as channels for community interactions, and http://maps.sensor.community/ serves the data gathered this way.
While I am somewhat familiar with the data and vaguely familiar with some aspects of the software, I have so far not taken a close look at the hardware aspects, so hopefully, this ticket will help change that.
At the Forum Open Hardware in Berlin last week (cf. #1747 ), I received one of their sensor kits, which should facilitate the next steps.
