enabling graph windows makes phd2 unresponsive on linux

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start phd2 on linux
2. enable graph window

What is the expected output?

phd2 responds to user input

What do you see instead?

graph window is drawn, and then phd2 freezes up.

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.

I had hoped that r652 would fix this issue for linux, but it does not.

I found that the graph window is being continuously repainted on Linux and that 
is causing the unresponsiveness.

Not sure yet what is causing the repainting though...

I found what was causing the continuous repainting and I will commit a fix 
shortly.
