Backspace does not work when connected over ssh

Hi, I've come to like the terminal a lot, but when connected over ssh backspacing just inserts a whitespace character visually. On the server the backspace still happens though

Could this be an issue in my config?

Above terminal is remote, below is local. Note that the errors in the remote terminal don't correspond to the input.

Foot is not installed on the remote, maybe that's the issue? I can't install it there though.

Hi Try overriding the value for term in the foot config file term=xterm-256color
