Mobs not spawning in singleplayer world. #1545

Open OverNamed opened 6 years ago

OverNamed commented 6 years ago

In a singleplayer world at night, no hostile mobs are spawning even though I'm in hard difficulty. This has been since the start of the pack and has still been happening in 3.0.5 (the version of the pack I'm in currently.) I'm trying to get the shadow gem achievement done, but it's in every biome that they aren't spawning, not just darklands.

I'm using the twitch/curse launcher in 3.0.5, if there is a different launcher I can use, please tell me. I'm not using Optifine or any other types of mods, it's just the normal pack. http://prntscr.com/j222cg

OverNamed commented 6 years ago

The Url doesn't seem to work, if you can, please tell me how to fix it.

Just paste the raw link and do not use markdown.

Darkosto commented 6 years ago

Mobs spawn normally in my testing and for other uses. I cannot reproduce this. Make sure you're not playing in peaceful.

OverNamed commented 6 years ago

It might be because I put in a seed instead of generating a normal world. But it still isn't working, I'll try to go to a new world without a seed.

OverNamed commented 6 years ago

Yeah, when I go into a new world, without using a seed, mobs spawn.

JakobBritton commented 6 years ago

I'm having the same issue, hopefully it can be fixed

runew0lf commented 6 years ago

+1 for no hostile mobs spawning, just lots of wolves everywhere! i noticed that there are no red patches anywhere when i pressed F7 i didnt install optifine and also didnt enter a seed

tomazak commented 6 years ago

Same bug happening here, happening in all worlds, tried spawning worlds with preset/without, with seed/without and non of them are spawning hostile mobs made sure to progress to stage zero in all and still nothing. Have not added anything to the pack playing as provided. made sure all worlds were not in peaceful.

Darkosto commented 6 years ago

@runew0lf When you say you pressed F7 and saw no red patches, where were you? On the surface outside? Underground?

Again, to add to this thread. I have tested on SP and MP personally. I've also talked to a number of players and not one of them is having trouble getting mobds to spawn. The issue people are experiencing here is currently unable to be fixed because I cannot reproduce it and neither can the people I ask to test. I'm not sure where to go from here since no one has been able to provide me with information as to what exactly is going on. I'll keep looking but there is nothing able to be done if I do not know the cause.

runew0lf commented 6 years ago

Sorry darko buddy, outside in the dark there are no red patches. If you need any more information, let me know buddy and i'll provide all that i can. i dont have the world anymore as i wiped it to start again to see if i can get mobs to spawn tomorrow.

Darkosto commented 6 years ago

This won't affect mob spawning, but just be aware red lines only show when the area does not have access to the sky. So, underground and covered areas will have red X's. Anything that is accessible to the sky will always be yellow.

I suggest reinstalling the pack, maybe something went wrong during installation? Also, what launcher do you play on? ATL or Twitch?

JakobBritton commented 6 years ago

I can't speak for runew0lf, but I'm having this issue through the Twitch launcher.

JakobBritton commented 6 years ago

I made a post about this issue on /r/feedthebeast and one user told me that they had the same issue, and they created a new world and instead of using the Sevtech v2 world option as they did in the previous world they left it at default and it was fixed. I tried this fix by recreating my world with default but alas the issue remained, but hopefully it will work for others.

Keradrimm commented 6 years ago

Maybe i'll say crap, excuse me if so. I had the same issue with no hostile mobs spawning at night and i started checking options... I toggled off the full screen option and the mobs came back... I know, it makes little sense.

I recovered at the same time the feature in JEI that highlight in the inventory the items we're looking for... I don't know if it's related.

Keradrimm commented 6 years ago

Ok what i said was crap... It went fine a couple of days... And now the mobs don't seem to spawn again... I don't know what i did. I'll try reinstall the pack.

Darkosto commented 6 years ago

What render distance is everyone playing at?

Lance5057 commented 6 years ago

I'm having the same issue as well. My render distance is 8, I changed nothing when spawning a world. On rare occasion I'll see a zombie but I might as well be playing peaceful despite it being set to normal. I can run through a darklands at night and see nothing but neutral mobs and sometimes steppe wolves. It's making it rather impossible to get shadow gems.

runew0lf commented 6 years ago

It did fix it after starting a new game for me, i didnt change anything at all, exactly the same settings. (all default)

OverNamed commented 6 years ago

I deleted that world after Darkosto said it wasn't reproducible. So I can't help dark out. Sorry

JakobBritton commented 6 years ago

I've done it from pretty much any render distance and nothing helped, I've tried redownloading the pack on the ATLauncher instead of Twitch this time and making a brand new world and I'm still having this issue. it's really frustrating because I just want to actually be able to play.

tomazak commented 6 years ago

I did after first commenting on this feed move from twitch to ATlauncher and i thought the bugged had been fixed although now progressing further i realises that it was only slightly alleviated, i play on render 32 didn't know this could effect the issue will try to lower it and see if anything spawns as i have the shoggoth quest and non spawn in their lair

BananaTassium commented 6 years ago

I'm also having this problem with a seed. I've spent 1-2 hours sitting in a darklands biome with nothing, and thought it was just getting unlucky. Then I noticed that I hadn't seen a mob in a while (there was mobs for a while) and I have seen 1 or 2 since. It's almost like peaceful, but mobs very very rarely spawn instead of never spawning, like Lance5057 said. It's making progression really tough. It's also worth noting that like others I see a TON of passive mobs, particularly steppe wolves. EDIT: I closed Minecraft and shut down my computer to sleep, when I rebooted it this morning mobs started spawning again. I don't know how long that will last, but it's worth noting I guess.

dingsbums commented 6 years ago

I had this problem, too when I used a different render distance than 12. With 12 mobs suddenly spawned in the darklands.

ehmitchell3 commented 6 years ago

My steps to reproduce this (my version of SevTech is a bit different as Ive updated the mods and worked through any mismatch errors from them).

New Single Player > Preset: Sevtech v2; World Type: Realistic; Cheats, Structures and Chest on.

Read the Preset potential solution, cloned the world, turned off the preset, and still no mobs.

Seed I was using was -4190587957783354985.

Started a new game with new seed, left the preset off, and it works just fine now.

Electrofried commented 6 years ago

@Darkosto this is related to the amount of memory available to java i believ , when memory maxes out, mobs stop spawning for some reason. If memory stays pegged 24/7 then the server never runs the spawn events. I have no idea why. If you want to reproduce, start a server instance with only 4GB then place a bunch of weirding gadgets in world to chunkload areas till ram usage is at max and GC is crying, then kill all and watch and almost nothing re-spawns.

Myfistizpist commented 6 years ago

It is not memory related. I have had the same issue of hostile mobs not spawning in darklands, using 12/32GB of memory. As I found in another issue, a temporary solution was to lower Chunk view distance from 20 in my case down to 12. Mobs then spawned normally.

kholat commented 6 years ago

Similar problem here, they spawn veeery rarely. Caves have no mobs. Darklands have only cows. Neutral mobs and wolves abundant, hostiles not so much.

christopherobin commented 6 years ago

I can confirm @Myfistizpist 's solution, was wandering the Darklands at night and only wolves and non-hostile mobs spawing, lowered my chunks from 20 to 12 and now I have hostile mobs spawning.

kryogenic commented 6 years ago

Restarting the server fixed this for me

Electrofried commented 6 years ago

All these solutions have one thing in common... They reduce the RAM footprint of minecraft, freeing memory. This is 100% a RAM issue, the one person saying they have 11/32GB used and still has the issue probably does not have enough ram actually allocated to the minecraft client/server instance.

AsuraTakun commented 6 years ago

I can attest this is not a 100% RAM issue. I have 12GB allocated and am not even using 4GB. I have my render distance set to 12 by default and even reduced it to 8. I'm using the default preset with no changes. The only change I made setting wise was to the UI to make it normal instead of auto. I can confirm that at night the overworld is enabled for mob spawn. Difficulty is normal. I'm running at 20 TPS and at least 60 FPS when moving and loading chunks.

Reinstalled, no mod changes, created a new world, didn't change any settings at all from the default (not even the world name or UI settings). This is running on 3.0.7, and mobs do spawn. From what I can tell, this is most likely an issue with Mo' Bends as I have had problems with it in the past personally. Adding any mod that modifies the player or mob class (Tails, Cosmetic Armor, Mob Dismemberment, Back Tools, etc) seem to fight with it. To confirm this, I reinstalled my cosmetic mods that I like to use and turned off Mo' Bends and reconfigured my settings and mobs are spawning normally.

Turmfalke2 commented 6 years ago

Same issue here. I am using 3.0.7 world with a custom seed, I can walk through the darklands by night without seeing a single monster. It is not that monsters don't spawn at all, sometimes I do see a lone spider, but that they are really rare.
I am playing at rendering distance 16 and minecraft is using between 3.6G and 5.4G of the allocated 8.7G.

Isley6628 commented 6 years ago

So i have been playing sevtech for about a week and a half now. No custom seed left all world options at default. All of a sudden hostile mobs just stopped spawning. I read through this and other forums and couldn't find a resolution. What i wound up doing is enabling cheats and used the /kill command to kill all mobs. After this hostile and non hostile mobs started spawning again. I think maybe it somehow reaches the limit of the number of mobs that can be summoned or that can be handled.

btjk2214 commented 6 years ago

(MC 1.12.2 / Sevtech 3.0.8 / Easy Difficulty / 12GB RAM Allocated / Tutorial Stage)

I am new to Sevtech and noticed this issue today; no mobs anywhere at any time (minus steppe wolves). I found this thread looking for solutions, reset my view distance from 16 -> 2 in the middle of the night, and instantly I was surrounded by phantom floating ghoul beast demons again. Set it back to 16 and over several nights monsters are still spawning.

------------>TL;DR - Reset view distance, mobs spawn again.<------------

Thanks, threadmates! -BTJK

RobertLSnead commented 6 years ago

The same thing happens on servers! View distance has no impact to mob spawning! Had to tone down the wolves, now I'm flooded with cows, sheep, pigs, chickens instead :p No horse mobs though? Made it through level 0 but had a tough time with a very rare chance for mobs to spawn in the bad lands, had to reset the server several times to get them to spawn in long enough, almost had to admin spawn the darn gem to make the high level tier hopper. Author stated this was not an issue and to use the hunting dimension on level 1. Almost worth looking into another pack at this rate!

ghost commented 6 years ago

I settled in a village, all time in the village was spent in the tutorial stage. Mobs spawned normally until zombies attacked the villagers, turning them into Zombie Villagers, the nights after this one I always used my Tipi to sleep through the night. Later in I went and set up to get some Shadow Gems. But noticed that no mobs spawned, at all. Only occasionally and sometimes disappeared shortly after.

Another thing I noticed is the lack of sounds, certain sounds such as footsteps were never heard, no swing sounds with tools, only the block breaking sounds or hit sounds.

The last time I know that it all worked was before the villager "incident". I have no idea if this is useful, but, throwing it out there.

MrSmallish commented 6 years ago

I've found a solution! I've had this same problem and it drove me mad. I tried re-installing the pack, adding and removing mods and all sorts of nonsense just to try and make it work. Because I really really like this pack.

Anyway, here's how I got my mobs spawning again: Open to LAN. It worked for me, so I hope it works for everyone else.

CyanideSandwich commented 6 years ago

I'm also having this issue, I'm on 3.0.8 using the AT launcher. So far decreasing the render distance to 2 only works for a very brief time (couple of minutes tops). I tried killing all entities, no change. I increased the RAM allocated to the pack from 8gb (out of 16) to 12gb (I only keep minecraft running, and activity monitor says i'm only using 7.5 gbs anyway), no change. Reinstalled the pack, no change. Opening to LAN, no change. Changed the difficulty from easy to normal to hard, no change.

In addition only vanilla mobs spawn, with the exception of trumpet skeletons, blackbears, steppe wolves, and owls. NO grizzly bears, sharks, rats, or wild dogs spawn. In addition, pirahnas only spawn if I am riding a raft, as soon as I exit the raft, they all despawn and do not respawn unless i ride the raft again. Also, in the hunting dimension only vanilla mobs spawn, unless i decrease my render distance to 2 chunks, in which case all possible mobs from other mods spawn (demon cats, golems, witches, fallen knights/horses), but if i increase the render distance to 8 (my normal setting) they all cease to spawn, and only vanilla mobs spawn albeit sparsely.

I used a seed instead of random -7757505388919135334

pegasi51b commented 6 years ago

Sevtech 3.0.8 Normal Difficulty 8GB RAM Allocated Seed is random

I have the same issue, any solution in previous comments don't work for me. I found "solution" for now, I added IncreaseMobs mod, instantly I've got mobs spawn in my world.

But... on default settings for this mod, spawn weight is 100 and on this value I've not seen any mobs from ember or any enderman and shoggoth can attack with slimbals, I think it was now present in my previous world. If I rise the value all mobs spawn but there is too many mobs, too many to fight for example with enderman to get ender dust.

In my previous world everything with mobs was fine.

cosmin0696 commented 6 years ago

I am having the same problem and have been searching for a solution for the past 2 days. still nothing. Used /kill @e[type=!player] command to kill everything and then they spawned but till then only passive mobs and wolves. Cannot play the pack like this i mean there is no difference to the entity count between hard and peaceful. My render distance is 24 ( tried lowering it to 16, 12 , 2 - no luck ), 12 gigs of allocated Ram out of which it is barely using 5, tried with seed without seed, default preset or sevtech v2. Does anyone have a solution to this? I love the idea of the pack and i would love to play it but i do not see how can i do that considering all this

amalfushi commented 6 years ago

I was having the same issue everyone else is reporting. I could get some intermittent/temporary success by lowering my render distance and or using the /kill @e... command, however that wasn't very useful over time.

In my case, I had decided that I needed to manually replace the Java arguments used in the Twitch launcher with the arguments found here for some reason. That may have been the issue, because when I stopped doing that and left the arguments to the Twitch Launcher's defaults (with memory allocation set to 12gb), Mobs started spawning properly.

Silverhide2431 commented 5 years ago

Anyone found a 100% sure way to fix this problem where hostile mobs don't spawn all the time? Still having said problem in 2019

Nattehine commented 5 years ago

I can confirm that opening a singleplayer world to lan instantly starts spawning hostile mobs. I have this exact issue that everyone else is talking about; only steppe wolves and very, very rarely see a spider or zombie.

roobscoob commented 5 years ago

Pushing this, I'm having the same issue on a server. I can not do the recommended modification of the view distance as this is a headless server. Nor can i open it to lan. If anyone finds a solution please help

antonioCorelli commented 4 years ago

I have been having the same issue and I believe I have figured out the issue. Please let me know if this is inaccurate for any of you.

At the start, all mobs spawned normally. I made my way to a hills biome with a large river running through it, and set up camp. I got through the tutorial, and into age 1. Now it was time to build a blood alter so I needed demonic will. I let it go to night, and no mobs spawned. I looked around and found in the river were hundreds of steppe wolves. After further investigation, I noticed that the wolves were all clumping up, trying to attack squid that were underwater.

I'm not sure how so many wolves spawned. My theory is I slept during the night and they are one of the only hostile mobs that spawn in the day, above ground. I believe there is some max hostile mob spawn count that the wolves are filling up.

I'm going to try to go far away and wait for night again. Hopefully the chunks will all those wolves will unload and new hostiles can spawn.

Regardless of if this is the reason no mobs are spawning, I still think it is a bug that wolves rush into the water to try and kill squid/sea creatures. It is not a natural thing for them to do and leads to a bad user experience.

Frontrider commented 4 years ago

I got another thing that works: cull the animals. They seem to be using up the mobcap, preventing hostile mobs from spawning. I started killing seep (there were a lot of them, like 30+ in one area), and the hostiles immediately started spawning.

Frontrider commented 4 years ago

Also check shogot lairs and other places where mobs can be stacked up.

emanuele246gi commented 3 years ago

He doesn't want to help us in any way, don't waste your time here

Darkosto commented 3 years ago

@emanuele246gi The fix to help with this went out June 8th, 2020. I specifically set out to find solutions to the issue and redid the entire spawn system. Subsequent updates further refined the fixes. Not sure why you feel the need to be rude as if this issue has been ignored.
