Can't find a swamp or a jungle #1889

Playing 3.0.6, fresh world for the new biomes/better biome banding.

We've spent over a dozen hours hunting a ¬2000 block radius around our start point for a swamp or jungle - which is needed for age 1 vines for creeping moss and for the assistance in providing corallium(sp?) gems - will be digging in the ocean for that. No luck with either yet.

Also fewer abyssal stairways than the game we tried in 3.0.5 - only 2 in that whole search, and we've done most of our searching by raft, so I expected to find many more.

Also having far fewer wild dogs spawn than in 3.0.5 - which is a blessing for survive-ability but a curse when you want the wild dog pelt boots.

In general, I'm loving the pack, the amount of work evident in it is amazing, but the dependency on RNJesus for certain critical elements is starting to wear thin. I like the travelling about - the pack's worldgen is very pretty - but it'd be nice to have some additional ways to generate what you need or find those critical biomes and world items.

Same here i dont find swamp biome, i try external level.dat viewers but nothing, in the coordinates was others biomes like darklands...

SteseDav commented 6 years ago

Are you going North/South or East/West.

ghost commented 6 years ago

Any chance of adding Nature's Compass to the pack, or something like it to help find some of this stuff?

ghost commented 6 years ago

north firs, then south, then east and west only 1000 blocks, i fix it installing 3.0.0 creating the map and go back to 3.0.6

It's impressive how much more trouble players have finding biomes with the new world gen that has almost no rng....

The biome map is made up of heat bands and moisture bands. Jungles and swamps are (surprise) hot and wet. Go south/north to a hot band and head east/west to a wet band.

From spawn the closest hot band should be south, and the closest wet band should be east.

@SteseDav We went more north& south to get to the banding areas, but once in the banding areas went east/west searching.

@Blargerist To the south east we found primarily a large extent of the sunflower biome. We did find desert/mesa in the other direction, with savannah in between. Perhaps we needed to go even farther east, although past the sunflowers to the east at the moment we were hitting some autumn forest biome. Guess we'll explore even further.

Seconding what @Blargerist stated. You need to understand the way the map is generated and look smarter, not harder.

how to recognize a hot, wet etc banding area?

RobertLSnead commented 6 years ago

This has me stumped to, it would be nice to see a map or an example! Not sure how much more I can go in either direction, I have gone to the desert, and headed east until I have hit 5 Deserts/Savannah and Darklands, never found a Jungle anywhere. Would be nice to have a reading on screen showing you the dew levels, temp. etc for help finding a biome.

Found cool links to help, found it with this help : D https://sevtechages.gamepedia.com/Heatmap https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/8crpq4/sevtech_heatmap_breakdown/

EDIT: It did take awhile though, I kept missing the Jungle do to the ocean biome, went east from the desert till I hit the ocean went south until I hit land kept going in zig zag to stay in the wet/dry bands and found it. Not sure but was a good amount a ways away. Good luck!
