Using subtitles and timed text this way contradicts using cmaf/dash, which requires MPEG-4 p 30 encapsulation.

DASH-IF guidelines require conformance to CMAF presentation profiles but not CMAF media profiles. From my reading of CMAF, I would interpret this as a media profile requirement (A.4).

The fact is that people still do plaintext subtitle tracks, so we should at least help them get the timing right. That being said, I will add a note saying that this is discouraged.
