Thank you for the update on pushing segments out of redundant encoders. DASH-IF ingest specfication covers this use case and is available as a published DASH-IF specification. DASH-IF has approved a new work item to explicitly address some of the use cases of interest by MPEG, that were partially covered already, and the work is progressing well, and will lead to backward compatible changes.
For redundant ingest and encoder synchronization a method based on epoch locking is considered, in this case DASH MPD's share a common media timeline such as based on epoch that is 1-1-1970, several DASH-IF members already implemented this approach and it seems to be the preferred industry solution. For loss of input at encoder and missing segments signalling several solutions were discussed and agreed, but as they may need updates to respective MPEG standards contributions by individual members to MPEG should be considered. Also, changing of representation are features that will be supported in the updated version of the DASH-IF ingest protocol, but were not required for the initial version. Reverse segment lookup is still under investigation and there exist different opinions about it. Considering the importance of the work for the industry, a standardization item will eventually be useful. We consider that for the benefit of the industry MPEG and DASH-IF collaborate closely on this.
DASH-IF thanks WG03 for informing us about the progress of IEC/ISO 23009-8.DASH-IF requests WG03 to kindly consider adding the following features to 23009-1:
