NovaCustom NV41 (pz-i7) USB Charging #694

Dasharo version

1.7.2 (EC 2023-12-08_2b2c17a) **Dasharo variant** Unsure - Laptop maybe **Question text** The NovaCustom NV41 (pz-i7) currently appears to provide power from all four USB ports when the laptop is switched off. This seems to only work if the AC adapter is connected and has remained connected since the laptop was last powered down. The manual for the laptop refered to 'Design I' although it is not clear what 'Design I' is, and said for this option 'Fn + Power Button' toggles the USB Port Power. Although this could be referring to toggling power when the laptop is on, I don't think that is what they mean. The led also doesn't appear to blink orange. I am wondering if there is supposed to be an option to toggle the power on the USB ports while the laptop is off but providing an AC adapter is connected? Any help or information you can provide would be useful as I am basically down to experimenting. :-) I also note that some of the key combinations don't appear to work as described. None of these are important to me, although I would love to know how to turn the Num-Lock on if you know? (Edited as Num-Lock was enclosed in LT/GT brackets and was hiding! :-)

@fsbof thank you for the interest in the project and the report. Unfortunately, this hotkey sheet refers to the hotkeys available in proprietary BIOS. Open-source firmware does not yet cover all of these functionalities.

We may treat the USB port power toggle as a feature request

Factory options are often hardware related. I'm afraid that the factory option is not present in our laptops.

I think Num Lk and Scr Lk are working, it was working before at least so I will test that.

Control Center is Clevo's (the ODM provider) proprietary Windows software. I think that application is normally listening to the other non-working Fn shortcuts as well. But Dasharo coreboot doesn't support Clevo's Control Center software. We won't do that because we believe firmware features are for firmware and shouldn't need to require software.

We will consider to replace Clevo's paper documentation. This documentation is based on proprietary EC firmware in combination with Microsoft Windows. The statement about warranty and opening the laptop is simply not true and actually just a draft from Clevo. In fact, we do allow our customers to maintain the laptops by themselves.

This is awesome, I love the idea that the keyboard is not tied to some piece of software. Yes, would be great if you can advise how to do num-lock and scoll-lock.

Regarding the USB power, it was a bonus discovering that all four ports seem to provide power. Any info on how this does or is intended to work with Dasharo would be useful. Thanks.

I think I've sussed the numpad.

By default, the embedded NumPad ( 789/uio/jkl/m,. ) works like arrow keys, page-up/down, home/end etc but only when combined with the Fn key. These aren't printed on the keys.

Pressing Fn+Ins/Num Lk toggles between the mode above and the number pad mode. Then the keys above produce numbers but again only when combined with the Fn key. Fn+j produces a 1.

So always need to use the Fn key
