Check length of sys.argv before attempting to access sys.argv[1]
Add error on open and exit program
Perform file operations inside with block to prevent file from staying open

good thinking. I would be in favor of moving this over to argparse instead, so that we can outsource a lot of this to a library. I don't find it particularly necessary though. I don't have merge rights, but LGTM! :shipit:
