There was a paper published in the House of Commons Library end of April recently which provides an overview of all elections from 1918-2017, including some good data such as party affiliation, share of the vote, and even MP characteristics. The table for download includes stats by region, characteristics, ballots, etc. Could be a good jumping off point.

I had to apply for a username and pwd, but have these now.
For example, here is a post-2015 face-to-face interview study: https://discover.ukdataservice.ac.uk/catalogue/?sn=7972&type=Data%20catalogue
Task is two fold, help with one or both appreciated!
1 - identify possible variables for inclusion. This should be informed by existing research e.g. a literature review or similar
2 - identify what datasets are available across the UK at ward level. Some datasets are available from the 2011 Census, but are there other more up to date variables? Are there comparability challenges with these datasets across England Wales Scotland and NI, perhaps due to different policies in different areas that may limit their use?
A list of variables ideally with links to possible sources would be great!
