There are different reasons for which species do not reach research grade. It may be because there is not enough information to ID the observation, because not enough observers proposed an ID, because there is not 2/3 of observers agreeing on a single species, because there are observers that proposed an ID of a rank superior to species, or because the ID is of a rank superior to species level (although 2/3 observers agree upon and ID) but that no one marked the observation as "Can not be ID at lower level".
We should ask ourselves if a species that remains at needs_id grade really reflects what a misidentified species is. We should also ask ourselves if it is because an observation reaches research grade that it is not often misidentified?
Question: Could we find species that remain at needs_id grade and are never upgraded to research grade because people don’t know?
