7 years ago I was able to keep the system from hanging by shutting off power saving but that is not even a workaround since it turns really slow especially when scanning a huge directory for a long while (took about 36 hours for about 27000 files, mostly images and resulted in a 100MB sqlite file)
While testing on a directory, memory consumption went too high than should be which led to a system hang.
Needs further testing...
