I'll keep this issue slim since it's a pair with https://github.com/NCEAS/metacat/issues/926. The indexing code doesn't support a facility like EML references. As it's a core part of the EML schema, we should support this. Right now, when references are used in fields like creator, the corresponding index field is empty.
