There's 2 things at play here:
Would this more explicit text help explain?
Here we see the overall gender composition across all occupations for the top 5 most common majors held by Petroleum, mining & geological engineers, including mining safety engineers.
When I go to the gender/major section http://beta.datausa.io/profile/soc/1721XX/ , I expect it to tell me that Petroleum Engineers are a bunch of dudes with Engineering degrees. However, what it tells me is that (despite the prior section telling me they're all engineers), that the 'most common' major by gender is in fact business. Also, the totals of people w/ a particular major substantially outnumber the people in the profession.
Is the intent here to give national numbers? I'd assumed (maybe wrong) that it would also be filtered by the occupation at the top.
