Open Dave-Vermeulen opened 2 weeks ago
This week, I noticed a closed mindset when I felt overwhelmed by all the tasks I needed to handle, both in my personal life and my studies. My focus was on the larger picture and the obstacles it presented, which felt daunting and restricted my ability to tackle things bit by bit.
On the other hand, I shifted to an open mindset by preparing myself mentally each day, doing regular morning check-ins to set priorities, and staying flexible as things shifted. A nightly gratitude list helped me focus on what I accomplished rather than the gaps, especially when I was unwell. This approach allowed me to be satisfied with my efforts, aiming for steady, daily progress rather than an all-or-nothing outlook.
I learned the value of working with my ADHD rather than against it. Breaking tasks down and telling myself I’ll do "just a little" often results in me doing more than expected. I also realized that controlling my morning dopamine intake (avoiding my phone upon waking) has made it easier to seek gratification from more challenging activities. Small, consistent steps — like running, meditation, and service acts — create a balanced mindset, sustaining my motivation and positive self-talk.
Next time, I’ll focus on small steps towards my goals, avoiding overwhelm by not fixating on the bigger picture. Instead, I’ll approach each day’s progress as part of the journey, knowing that these incremental steps contribute to the larger goal.
Hey team, I’m working on shifting my approach to a more growth-oriented mindset, and I’d love to have some regular sessions for skill-building together. I’m hoping to set up weekly sessions where we can do kata practice or collaborate on a profile project. If you’re interested in working together, please reply here, and let’s make it happen! :thread
