scrub WP_DEBUG warnings and errors by locating syntax and semantic error... #6

While diving head-on into wordpress and db-toolkit, I discover that db-toolkit is a bit of a warning factory when WP_DEBUG is set. These changes go a long way towards quieting many warnings.
